Gwen's not so lucky day...

Happy St. Patty's Day! Gwen looked adorable all in green yesterday (I will post pics later when I get home), but she couldn't say she was the luckiest little girl yesterday. The day started with a phone call from the babysitter she went to Monday (Carolyn, my mother-in-law, is out of town on spring break this week) to let me know that one of the other kids has chicken pox. Well, Gwen hasn't had her shots yet, but okay maybe she will just get the pox like the rest of us did the 'old fashioned' way. Gwen then headed to Tracy's (another babysitter- that she goes to once a week and will be having the rest of this week) where I just let her know of Gwen's exposure just to be safe. Once there, I wasn't so much worried about the kids (because all have been vaccinated) but I was concerned about Tracy's pregnant daughter who comes over to visit often. I ended up worrying myself so much that I called the pediatrician to see what I should do and when I would know if Gwen had the chicken pox or not. Their recommendation, get Gwen vaccinated ASAP! I guess if you can get the shot within 48 hours of exposure, you can either not get them or it won't be as severe. (They said there wasn't much the pregnant mom could do but be careful) So....I left work at 9:30 to get Gwen and to make the only appointment available for the day. Not only was it nap time, but also time for lunch soon, and here we are ready for shots! RIGHT! It did not go well at all. I have never seen this sweet thing scream bloody murder like she did while in my arms yesterday! I just wanted to make the pain stop so bad and the shots just kept coming! After a finger prick and 6 shots Gwen was freed and clung to me for dear life and wailed for another 10 minutes (but for what felt like an eternity). Once calmed down, we left the office and headed back to the sitter's. Gwen wouldn't eat or drink anything for the rest of the day, nor would she nap for Tracy at all. She even kept the other 3 kids at Tracy's up so they couldn't nap either! How generous! After I picked her up we played out in the yard and the 70 degree sunny day. She was doing much better and I thought her nasty, bad-luck day was done. I was wrong. Brad and I are taking a financial planning class together on Tuesday nights, so we asked is cousin to watch Gwen for us while we were gone for the 2 hours. Well, 5 minutes before we picked her up, Gwen decided to pick up and spill a mug of hot tea on herself! The dad had put it where he thought is was out of reach, but Gwen is very fast and can reach everything. She spilled it all over her belly. She is fine, but has a nice pink blotch about the size of my hand on her chest and belly. Such a bad day! Hopefully today is better.
